Bendis has been great on the Superman titles. I hope we can all agree on that, I'm as surprised as you. The art on Action has been all over the map though. We were spoiled with Ryan Sook doing the first arc. It was inspiring to hear that JRJR was going to be there after his first Tom King Batman issue. Inked by Klaus Janson, it was lush brushwork over what seemed like full pencils. Maybe there was a renaissance happening.

There wasn't. Two weeks later, their second offering of Bat/Cat came out and looked rushed, under finished, and overworked. THAT was the team that showed up for Action. It can be disheartening seeing your favorites not at their best. DC must have decided to make a change, because the great Danny Miki has come on to ink the current arc and...it's also not good. Too many faces of adults look like children, and those 'children' don't look like humans all the time.

So, why such a high grade then, given the ew factor for the art? Easy. Bendis has been great on the Superman titles. The search to find the origin of Connor Kent has humor and sadness in equal parts, leading to two great pages at the Kent farm that just needed to be better visually to lift the whole book. The story lifts where the art can't, and here we are.
