VERY FINE/NEAR MINT

(W/A/CA) Bendis & Stuart Immmomen

It's a blast from the past as the original five students of Professor X - Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel and Beast - are plucked from the past and brought to the present. But what they find, the state that their future selves are in and the state of Xavier's dream, is far from the future they dreamed of. And how will the X-Men of the present deal with their past coming crashing forward?

*Big Spoilers*

This issue can be really fun, if you have never read an X-Men book before. Bendis fans can flock to this book and enjoy a new twist! But to fans that lived through 500 issues of Claremont and hundreds more from Morrison and Whedon and more, fans who can hear these characters voices in their head like a memory, getting past the unusual behavior of your dearest X-members is difficult, and even annoying. Beast is lacking his usual scholarly flare, which hampered my enjoyment.

If Beast has the ability to travel in time, why would he visit the original team – why not visit Scott before the whole Pheonix Five happened, the only necessary course of action would be to tell Scott he KILLS Professor X! Wouldn’t that work?? And being one of the most intelligent minds on the planet, is this REALLY the ONLY option Beast has? He seriously can’t think of any other plan? Nothing?? I just don’t buy it.

But I am looking forward to the next issues just because I can’t wait to see them face to face, and I kind of need closure on the letter Scott writes to Jean when we flash back in time. I’ll be back, but I feel like Bendis needs to delve into more back issues to get a better sense of these characters, he’s been writing Avengers a little too long.
