VERY FINE/NEAR MINT

(W) Nick Spencer
(A/CA) Ryan Ottley

Year two of Nick Spencer, Ryan Ottley and Humberto Ramos' run on ASM begins here! In the giant-sized main story, Spider-Man and Mary Jane find themselves in an INCREDIBLY tough situation, thanks to Electro. Can Spidey save MJ? CAN MJ SAVE SPIDEY? What is Mysterio cooking, and what does it have to do with the bandaged villain who has been on the periphery since #1?! All this, plus a story by Dan Hipp (TEEN TITANS GO! Art Director), internet sensation Keaton Patti and MORE!
Date Available: 07/10/2019

Reviews

This nearly triple sized issue of Amazing Spider-Man is perfectly and competently a comic. It tells a story and a B story in parallel, with a C story as a framer. It offers opportunity to bounce between stories as similar lines of dialogue provide segue opportunities. Bits of story and art are parceled out to specific artists to keep a consistent look for their duration. It is fine.

It needed to be better than fine though. There are nice Ryan Ottley pages offset by odd Humberto Ramos pages, with Patrick Gleason and Kev Walker pages that you can barely tell are theirs even if they are perfectly fine. Our big new baddie does absolutely nothing in this issue besides talk, and that now makes 25 issues of 'Oh, what's going on with this?' in a row. Last issue was really enjoyable. This one was a thing that happened.
