Big action. Big Science. And a big mystery to solve! The superstar team of Warren Ellis and Simone Bianchi take the X-Men to the "Second Stage"! "Messiah CompleX" pulled the X-Men team together, "Divided We Stand" tore them apart. Now the X-Men are back to business -- with a new look, a new base of operations, and a mission that will take them into mind-bending and previously uncharted territory -- one that will test them -- and their leader Cyclops -- to their very core. You won’t believe your eyes.

REVIEW by Brian Fisher
Warren Ellis has changed the face of this book. While Joss Whedon’s run on the title was a fun, humorous and exciting super hero romp, Ellis’ Astonishing X-Men has become an analytical sci-fi adventure. And while that’s certainly not a bad thing (far from it in fact), it is undoubtedly a jarring shift in tone. And that may be a turnoff for some readers. But take heart, fair readers. There is a lot to still be found of merit in the new AXM. Simone Bianchi’s artwork is brilliant and wondrous in the most literal terms. Every panel is chock full of visuals that will make you stand agape in wonder. Bianchi has a masterful sense of panel usage and composition and a great ability for fluid storytelling. Ellis introduces terrific science fiction elements never before introduced in the X-universe, and possibly nowhere else. Sure, Whedon’s run was a blast, but Ellis has transformed this title into the thinking-man’s X-book.
