After taking the biggest Bat-break of my comic life (not having read the main Batman title since Tom King’s wedding issue) I decided to give Williamson’s first issue a try. After reading it I couldn’t decide if I was genuinely impressed or if it had just been awhile since I read a main continuity Batman book, so I read it a second time and I think this is a solid jumping on point for new readers but also doesn’t completely detach itself from what came before like other recent creative team changes have been in other comics. It’s always a tricky path to hop on a character right after a celebrated run and I think Williamson is the guy for it, so while most are grabbing this issue for the McFarlane homage cover, be sure to actually read it too.
