VERY FINE/NEAR MINT

Written by Garth Ennis
Art by Russ Braun
Cover by Darick Robertson

The third bad day: as Hughie reels from the events of last issue, the trail leads him to the home of an old adversary thought long dead. Butcher gets in touch with a few details no one's yet considered, and Frenchie gives our hero a brutally honest rundow.

BONUS REVIEW by Gary Owens

The 6-year epic is about to end, with only 2 issues left in this series. Garth cranks it up on all cylinders: characterization (everybody is a bit evil, and a bit good: no exceptions), strong dialogue, and twisty plots that always surprise. He's a story teller, without a doubt, though he sometimes has to jam the story through this comic medium, which can disjoint, like here, where the ton of word balloons can drown out the art. But I forgive him; it's the end, he's connecting the dots for the reader, for once, and he still enriching characters through talk. If you haven't picked The Boys up yet, you can start with the trades; perhaps by the time you're done, the last trade, covering these last issues, may be out. You won't regret it.
