Reviews

DC is absolutely blowing it out of the water with their Pride offerings this year, and DC Pride 2022 is no exception. As a queer person myself, this book was an absolute thrill to read. It is so important to see not only characters, but also SUPERHEROES, and writers and artists, like me. It’s got a dozen different stories with a wide variety of perspectives; it’s got a slew of awesome and beautiful covers; it has ups and downs and fun stories and moving stories.
The book has a couple hiccups, but in my opinion they’re overshadowed tenfold by the good within it. I’m finally able to look at a DC superhero who canonically uses the same labels as me. There’s a Connor Hawke story by Ro Stein and Ted Brandt where he comes out as asexual that was absolutely phenomenal and I can’t wait to see what Connor does next (and I hope these two creators are involved in it). The new non-binary character Kid Quick gets their own adventure as well, leading into the delightful Multiversity: Teen Justice #1 which is also out right now! It even has a moving autobiographical story by the voice of Batman himself, Kevin Conroy, which serves as a perfect bookend to go with the introduction by Arrowverse actress Nicole Maines.
I loved this issue, and it moved me to tears multiple times. DC comics has me excited about comics, about Pride, and about myself. I can only hope next year’s Pride Special is bigger and better and has even more queer heroes.
