BONUS REVIEW by GARY OWENS

It is $1, and it is a new comic. Those two facts alone make this comic great. They say we should reward good behavior, so I suggest rewarding IDW by buying it. Let them know that $1 comics sell. It might start a trend, and if it doesn’t, you’re only out $1. As for content, this issue offers cool covers, with two legitimately good stories. The first tale, which sets up the series, has the standard Dwarf, Elf, Thief, and Fighter teaming up for an adventure in (where else?) a dungeon, casting jokes and being reckless as they advance, reminiscent of some of the D&D sessions I used to attend. The second story takes place in the Dark Sun world, which will eventually be its own series, about a gladiator caught where he shouldn’t be. Both are fantasy, and despite the popularity of the Harry Potter books and the LOTR movies, this is rare in comics. The D&D story is light-hearted, but serious, and I can see rising tensions as the series progresses. Give it a try: good artwork, interesting characters (only the Thief was boring) and clever stories. Not bad for $1 comic.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
