Truth be told, I have a sweet spot for westerns. Every
weekend growing up my father and I would watch WILD WILD WEST, the LONE RANGER, CISCO KID, ZORRO, and RAWHIDE on WGN, I think and Tarzan of course. I was always more concerned that they could die and therefore got more invested/ scared in the story. See Batman and Spider-Man were superheroes with silly villains like Egghead and the Green Goblin, you can't be killed by a guy called Egghead. That's just goofy. Whereas Clint Eastwood and Robert Conrad were just guys with six shooters and hats. One stray bullet and they are toast. Over the years I have tried many a western comic book, Jonah Hex and his ilk. And for the most part, if the artwork was not amazing, I never felt as engaged as in my youth, something in the translation was missing. So here I am again with the Enfield Gang Massacre. Condon and Phillips do a pretty descent job. There's some bank robbers, some upset townsfolk, and a Texas Ranger looking for peace. The dialogue feels like a western. The artwork feels like a western. The coloring 100% nails what I now feel like all western comics need to look like. The story is kinda interesting but I feel like I know where it is going but we shall see. Once again there is just something missing... maybe next issue.
