Call this, really, the origin of the Creatures. The creatures are DC’s classical version of the monster mash, with the mid-20th century “horror” movies stars all together in one short limited series. If you’ve read Frankenstein by Shelley, you’ll see some of the same characteristics of the creature here, though not in the complexity that young Mary wrote of him. The crush here is action, first, and velocity, getting to the now, though scribe Jeff Lemire explains it all well enough to keep it charging forward in an understandable way, even if going forward quickly is the number one point. If you miss the Creatures, wonder how they will fit into the larger DC universe, this is the comic to start on; it’s fairly creepy, but doesn’t ooze blood. Can see much potential here…
