No one does monsters like Mignola, and here he proves that again. Frankenstein Underground gives readers an intimate view of what it is like to be Frankenstein's monster: to be hunted, to be feared, and to be hated. Frankenstein's monster tells his sad story throughout the book, which I found to be resoundingly human, while at the same time an epic story of flight and misery. Mignola makes readers want to care about Frankenstein's monster, and Stenbeck's art only strengthens that, reflecting the tone perfectly. The story is tied into the rest of the Mignolaverse with the inclusion of a certain occult collector, and ends with a haunting, if not damning event that will lead the series to some strange places.
