Anyone who has come into the downtown Graham Crackers location in the last few months has no doubt heard my aggressive sales pitch for Marvel’s new Hawkeye series. Those of you who actually heeded my relentless advice have been rewarded with one of the best comics of the year. If Alan Moore “modernized” superheroes with Watchmen in the 1980s, and Grant Morrison post-modernized them with The Invisibles in the 90s, then Matt Fraction has created a hero for the common man in the Internet Age. He is self-doubting, clumsy and his good intentions often backfire horribly. He doesn’t fight Galactus or Dr. Doom, but instead risks his life to save a stray dog. Oh, and he wears purple Cons. Merry Christmas Hawkguy.
