Not since the Captain of the Hindenberg said, "Lovely flight, now let's just stick the landing, shall we?", has anyone snatched defeat from the jaws of victory so spectacularly as Hickman has with his X-Men shenanigans. Even if you didn't love House of X/Powers of X, at least it seemed like a vaguely fresh take. It was a hoot, until it lead to a few years of a decidedly less fresh slew of X titles because Marvel, like a bunch of resurrected mutants, never learns. It was bright in the beginning, we went through a tunnel, and maybe there's some light in front of us unless it's just a train. Hickman has a lot to explain, and this kinda, sorta starts that long overdue process of ending his run. It doesn't at all explain why Magneto isn't in any way on trial. On the plus side, Moira's still around. Apparently she's been at the bottom of the very deep hole that Hickman has dug. Highly recommended for those who made it through X of Swords, anybody who liked Hox/Pox but lost interest before X of Swords, and those unfortunate collectors who decided to get every reheated Marvel crossover produced within the last year. Thought it was going to end with Atlantis Attacks, didn't you?
