Top Cow is known for some fine lookin’ covers, like here. In fact, this cover purrs, with its dark detail on the arm shields, the cascading hair, all accentuated by a pose that I could actually see someone doing. And black; when are Top Cow covers so black? So I got it, but unenthusiastically, since I'm not a fan of supernatural comics, and the title struck me as a tired twist from a Dan Brown novel. How wrong could I be. Yes, the twist part still holds, but the calm, ruthless story telling got me. The back-story itself is simple; the present day Magdalena, a descendant in a long line of supernatural enforcers, has departed from her church. Ron Marz explores her decision, letting the tension build as the Church entices her to return, even as a boy is being twisted to great evil. Only some bland, obligatory fist-a-cuffs taints the comic, but I gotta recommend it. Did I mention the cover?
