2004 Series / 2008 Annual
Continuing directly from the pages of new avengers #37: the hood's gang of super-criminals takes the fight right to the avengers’ door!! Its wall-to-wall action and the end of an era for one avenger and a major defection for another.
This double-sized issue ties into or wraps up threads from civil war, world war hulk, both avengers titles and the upcoming secret invasion!! Avengers writer bendis welcomes rising star carlo pagulayan on his avengers debut...
"The best thing in this decent but very purple comic (seriously, there’s pages and pages of monochrome purple artwork) is, upon returning from a recent fight, Jessica Jones asks ‘You WON ONE?’ To which Ronin replies, ‘For once.’ Which pretty much sums up a major criticism I had of Bendis’ Avengers comics, so kudos to him for copping to it. Besides that neat exchange, there’s an epic brawl between the Avengers and Hood’s gang, which sees an Avenger or two quit (I think?) in the aftermath. Despite some dodgy artwork (weird perspectives, lack of backgrounds, again with the purple), this is a decent conclusion to the ‘Avengers vs Hood’ storyline."
