Reviews

Like a more accessible Grant Morrison or a less verbose Chris Claremont, Hickman has shown up when the chips were down and proceeded to bet the farm (or more appropriately, the mansion) on the future of the X-Men. This book is an amazing tightrope act that's skillfully balancing between that which is familiar, and that which just seems familiar. If most mainstream comics strive to present the illusion of change, this book is like a Penn and Teller trick where you get exactly what you want, it gets broken, then you get something better. Parts of this title are very, very far in the future, but instead of being an annoyance, it's a shiny puzzle box that you won't want to put down. Highly recommended for fans of Nimrod. Although I've never counted myself as a member of your tiny group, I may have to start. It's also a highly recommended book for anybody who doesn't mind adding a little thinky-time to their comics reading, as this is a book that frowns greatly upon your multi-tasking. If it stays as good as these first two issues, these are exactly the titles that the franchise has needed for a decade or more. These two titles. House and Powers. because Fallen Angels just seems a bit nutty to me.
