It's the crossover nobody ever expected! STAR TREK: The hope for the best of mankind's future! PLANET OF THE APES: A chilling look at the fall of humanity! How could these worlds possibly collide? What could possibly cause Captain Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise to side with Dr. Zaius to protect Ape City? And what does Colonel George Taylor have to say about it? It's a madhouse! A madhouse!!

Spoiler alert: The events in the solicitation for this book may happen down the line, but they're all spoilers because NONE of them happen in this issue. It's a shame that so much hyperbole went into that description. "On a world their own, the crew of the Enterprise find that the Klingons have been expanding their empire on...The Planet of the Apes!' would have been all you needed. What's actually here is fine, if undistinguished. Writers Scott/David Tipton replicate the voices of the Star Trek crew fairly well- you'll hear Shatner's voice when you read the Captain's Log entries- and the art by Racheal Stott is passable for likenesses and enjoyable with its clean lines. I'd say she reminds me a bit of early Craig Cermak, but he's still in the early stages of his career too. Is there technology beyond the reach of either the Federation or the Klingons? There is! Does that mean we know who's talked the Klingons into an ill advised land grab? No, not yet! Will you want to read the next issue to get to all that juicy stuff from the original solicit? You will, which means this issue was successful.
