Reviews

The first arc of Star Wars wraps up in this issue. A three issue arc instead of something designed to be '6 issues = Vol. 1' makes me very happy. John Cassaday's art in this issue is better (in places) than its been any place else since Astonishing X-Men. Some of the weaknesses persist,(there's a page missing near the end- ask Rick in Wheaton about it) and some of the vehicles he's designed don't feel like they fit in the SW universe. Yes, there's a Richard Corben-esque distortion to some of his figures when they're not head on (again, thanks to Rick in WT), but the feeling and accuracy attached to the leads, even to their intentions at times, can't be denied. Even when its 'wrong' its just off, and it feels pretty 'right' when viewed as a whole. Jason Aaron gives the best moments to Vader (again). You get Vader vs. AT-AT round 2. There's clever bits there both in the writing, and the timing of one unfortunate phrase combined with a perfect panel to go along with it. He's still got the licensed title bug going on-do we need to see Chewie w/ pieces of C3-PO again?- but does a better job this issue setting up our cast as people who have just come together. I know a lot of this might seem like complaining, but its not meant to be. I'm really enjoying this book, and this was my favorite issue so far.
