On a remote world, Darth Vader chafes at the assignment given to him by the Emperor: guarding an Imperial manufacturing facility from the anti-Imperial natives. Vader feels the duty is beneath him-until he learns that a Jedi Master and his Padawan are in league with the natives! Now the game is afoot, and Vader is on the trail of his favorite prey. No ambush, no local monstrous lizards, will deter him his pursuit. Woe be to the Jedi when Vader catches up with them! This issue follows events in Revenge of the Sith! Vader vs. Jedi!

BONUS REVIEW by GARY OWENS

A month ago my 8-year-old son told me he had never seen a movie, or Clone Wars cartoon episode, that had Darth Vader in it. As his entertainment teacher, I saw the gap, and now he has watched Star Wars, Empire, and, just this week, The Return of the Jedi. Dark Horse, somehow clairvoyant (I’m trying to find the hidden cameras around my house), comes out with this issue, showing Darth Vader, in his glory, on the cover. Huge holes still exist, for me, between Clone Wars and Star Wars, but this gets closer by showing an early, struggling Darth Vader on a mission to ensure the completion of an AT-AT armada, even as he is distracted by separatists, Jedi, and his yearning, maybe, to match his emperor’s hatred. Well written by Blackman, with dark, boding artwork by Scalf, this issue brings it home. And, as teacher, I’m doing my duty by staying a step ahead of my son. It’s challenging, but someone has to do it.

I give it 9 out of 10 Grahams
