It's probably best to think of the Man of Steel mini-series as a sort of airlock between the fizzling remnants of Rebirth and a Bendis Bubble. Whatever the editorial environment, it appears that one thing is true, the DC Universe is not particularly cohesive. Much like Battleworld, the publisher recently seems to be a group of tacitly connected islands. The Tomtopia version of Batman is a lot of miles away from the Justice League that lives in Snyderstonia. However, this is an excellent world view to consider when reading the Superman of Bendisbracthen. It's fun to see Superman interacting with a wealth of DC characters, even if they are totally unlike the heroes starring in their own books.
The first issue of the latest Superman #1 was a solid book. It has a bit of everything, even Lois and Jon. Stop worrying, Clark misses them too. This issue was good enough that the Republic of Shawnanigans has issued a pardon to Mr. Bendis for Civil War 2. As long as our inspectors continue to find interesting, re-energized work from Bendisbrachten, we will support it's efforts at entertaining us. Our representatives would also like to address Jeff Lemire's "the Tariffics", but it appears that we've run out of time.
Highly recommended for people who like Superman, those who enjoy the feeling of hope, and those who wish Neal Adams would come back from 1974 to draw Superman again. Clearly, Ivan Reis has both a Delorean and a chained up Adams in his basement.
