Better than the 'Heroes' special, Superman Villains deals with the darker side of Clark Kent going public with his secret identity. The majority of the issue is not spent with Lex Luthor, but some major minor names with strong Superman ties, presented in short, stylish vignettes.
The best bits in the book have to do with the new owner of the Daily Planet, who may have secrets of her own that will change the landscape of Metropolis forever. There's a more eclectic mix of artists than the 'Heroes' special had, but they are applied to characters their styles work well with. This is sort of the opposite of the jam farewell issues Bendis always talked Marvel into when he was facing an anniversary for a title he was writing.
