BONUS REVIEW by KIRK JACKSON

Sweet Tooth’s second chapter reaches a new high in gut wrenching storytelling. The images he uses to seamlessly switch between flashbacks and “present day” panels, mirror each other almost perfectly. But it is the little bit of asymmetry perhaps that pulls more at the heart strings. The flashbacks are packed with emotion, but the emotion one feels is only amplified when the eyes shifts over to the post-plague mirror image. The minor differences show that old wounds have only become deeper. New wounds are delivered as well through the amazing renderings of Sweet Tooth’s new cell mates. These lonely mutants are drawn with a kind of fantastic desperation I’ve only seen recently in the movie “Pan’s Labyrinth”. Jeff Lemire continues to deliver one of the most unique and affecting works of fiction today.
