BONUS REVIEW by Rick Berg

So I heard Wonder Woman is a great jumping on point and has a new creative team. Someone mentioned Frank Miller and Gene Colan, both favorites of mine. I checked the creative team, it includes artist Mike Janin and writer Mariko Tamaki, not the team listed above. Mike Janin is a very competent clean artist with some interesting layout choices. He reminds me a lot of a subdued Russell (Mighty Thor) Dautermann. 10-15 years ago I would've said he's perfected the DC house art style. It's very good but nothing that will keep me returning next issue. Mariko Tamaki has written a ton of books that I have never read and won tons of awards for them. Here she employs a Magnum PI style voice over that doesn't necessarily follow the action on page. I am slightly intrigued by what is said here but not at all intrigued by the actual story. Seems a little too much like a DC/Warner Bros/AT&T person "suggested" Diana act more like the movie version than create your own unique take. It comes off more pandering than enticing. The framing sequence of super jail riot vs the I can't believe DC/Warner Bros/AT&T let them call the Ikea stand-in that name, feels as if it was 2 separate stories that were edited together, not by Mariko. It feels very disjointed to me. The is it a twist ending, ending does nothing for me. Don't care at all. This issue is a swing and a miss for me. If it is a really light week I might read the next issue, but I doubt it.

I give it 4 out of 10 Grahams

Hey Kids! Who wrote and drew #157 of the Daredevil Comic!? Who cares! Frank Miller shows up, and that's the ball game Mr. Colan, thank you for your participation. This latest creative team on W.W. was a spectacular change for me, as I haven't opened the book in over a year. I read this issue twice. Highly recommended for those who lost interest during Rebirth, anybody looking for a jump-on issue before the film comes out (however it comes out), and particularly recommended for the fans in the nosebleed seats.
