BONUS 'MY FIRST COMIC' by MEGAN BYRD

It's hard to recall the first comic book I ever read, but I remember quite well the first comic I ever purchased by myself. Uncanny X-Men #394 isn't a particularly great X-Men tale. It's your typical mutant-gone-rogue stand alone where the X-Men must intervene. For a few perilous moments, Wolverine and Jean Grey (she was still alive at this point) believe they won't escape this mission alive and share a passionate kiss. For devoted readers of the time, I'm sure this was one more eye-rolling moment, a re-hash of the decades long love triangle between Scott, Logan and Jean. But for 14 year old Megan, this was a squeal worthy moment, one that makes this otherwise mundane issue stand out vividly in my mind. Churchill's cheesecake depiction of Wolverine and Jean Grey embracing on the cover may have had something to do with me picking up this issue, too.
