Bailey Hoskins has just discovered he's a mutant. For someone who's never been special, never stood out, discovering he's 'gifted' is truly a gift-entry into the halls of Xavier's School for Gifted Children and into the ranks of the world-famous X-Men! Unfortunately...Bailey might just be the worst X-Man ever. Max Bemis, frontman of the band Say Anything, kicks off his first Marvel miniseries by teaming with stellar artist Michael Walsh (SECRET AVENGERS, HANK JOHNSON) to bring us the story of a misfit among misfits. This is a fun issue. Here's the concept-two mutants get married, knock boots, and have a little baby mutant. When they tell him he's a mutant, he's elated. Like all teenagers, he wants a reason to feel special. Like most teenagers, he is not. His power is a one time use it and lose it, with a very large asterisk that comes at the end of that sentence. Things only get worse from there, but it does seem to stay on the 'fun' side of things even through a dark moment or two. The art by Michael Walsh is Daniel Acuna-esque- indy stylized by way of superhero friendly. This is a story that's going to need a strong finish to make the concept work to be more than just something cute.
