REVIEW by Brian Fisher

Firstly, let’s start off by saying that Peter Tomasi is no Geoff Johns. He’s nowhere near the talent that Johns is, but that goes for ninety percent of the writers in the industry today. But he is a good, if not great writer. Here he delves into the motivations behind Lance Corporal David Reid, the newly resurrected Magog, as he attempts to rescue his fellow Marines from an operation gone bad. The problem with that is we start to see hints of the Magog we know from “Kingdom Come.” And because of that Reid starts to become an unsympathetic character. The good news about that, though is we finally start to see more forward progression in his character, and frankly he’s been stagnating since his transformation. What we get here is a story to shock the reader, a violent story about duty and retribution and the difference between the two. How far is too far? When does killing become justified for anyone, let alone super heroes? Deep questions, and ones that JS of A isn’t afraid of asking.

I give it 8 out of 10 Grahams
